After just finishing our 43rd year of play, the Tigers boast an impressive record of 350—107—7 (75%). With 24 Division titles, 19 trips to the post season, and 11 state titles, the Tigers have enjoyed success in every decade since the program’s inception. The proud history of Hand football began in 1970 when Larry Ciotti was hired to start a high school football program in Madison, CT. Coach Ciotti demanded discipline, toughness, and total commitment from his players. His approach yielded immediate success with an undefeated season in 1973 and back to back state titles in 1976-77. In 1989, Larry Ciotti passed the program on to Steve Filippone. Coach Filippone has worked tirelessly to carry on the proud legacy of Hand Football and has built upon the rich tradition of success earning his 200th win in 2012 along with his 7th State title. GO TIGERS!!
The Tigers finished the season losing a heart-breaker to Darien 31-29 in the Class L quarterfinals on a last second field goal. It was a game filled with big plays on both sides and it was a testament to the hard work of this team that they went down fighting to the bitter end. Capt’s Hayden Atwater (INT, 3 tackles, 2-10 rushing), Ian Dieli (6 tackles, 1 for loss) and Pat Rogers (15 tackles, 10 solo) had their best games of the yr and truly sold out in a chance for a Tiger victory. This team finished at 8-4 and we are supremely proud of the effort they gave throughout the season. They kept improving and were seconds away from a semifinal berth. The team will return 14 starters (6 offense, 6 defense + K,P) to next yrs team so next year’s squad has a chance to be very good once again. Congratulations 2013 Tigers!! Tiger Pride!!
