- About Us
After finishing our 45th year of play, the Tigers boast an impressive record of 362—120—7 (74%). With 24 Division titles, 19 trips to the post season, and 11 state titles, the Tigers have enjoyed success in every decade since the program’s inception. The proud history of Hand football began in 1970 when Larry Ciotti was hired to start a high school football program in Madison, CT. Coach Ciotti demanded discipline, toughness, and total commitment from his players. His approach yielded immediate success with an undefeated season in 1973 and back to back state titles in 1976-77. In 1989, Larry Ciotti passed the program on to Steve Filippone. Coach Filippone has worked tirelessly to carry on the proud legacy of Hand Football and has built upon the rich tradition of success earning his 200th win in 2012 along with his 7th State title. GO TIGERS!!
The Tigers finished off the 2016 season with a resounding 44-0 win over Guilford. Over 150 alumni lined the field to greet Coach Filippone on his last game of his storied career at Hand Football. It was great to see so many old faces back down at the surf club and what is now called “Larry Ciotti Stadium”. Now a new age of Tiger football will come to pass and we look forward to your support over the coming years. Stay tuned for information on how to buy tickets for Coach Steve Filippone’s retirement dinner. It will be held on April 23rd at 1pm at Amarante’s in New Haven, CT.
All donations collected for our 2015 / 2016 donation period will support the Hand Football program with scholarships for the graduating seniors and essentially whatever the program needs.
